BAE Systems San Diego Ship Repair is
conveniently located on San Diego Bay and encompasses 23 acres
of property and over 16.6 acres of water area. This location is
also one of two Navy megaports in the country. The other one is
in Norfolk, Virginia, the location of Norfolk Ship Repair, our East Coast
yard. The emphasis is on "full service" ship repair,
and a complete complement of fully equipped shops is maintained
to perform any type of repair, conversion, modernization or overhaul.
Since the yard’s opening in 1977, a wide-ranging number
of government and commercial vessels have been serviced. The yard
has worked on a number of government and commercial ships and
boats, ranging from continuous maintenance programs on Guided
Missile Cruisers (CGs) to Post-Shakedown Availabilities for newly-delivered
Aegis destroyers (DDGs). The company has developed significant
expertise in long-term maintenance of Amphibious Landing Ships
(LSDs and LPDs), which remain the backbone of the Navy’s
amphibious capabilities. In addition, the company has developed
expert commercial ship conversion skills and routinely performs
wide-ranging repairs to merchant, fishing and research craft of
all types and sizes. San Diego Ship Repair is now the "go-to"
ship repair contractor for steam plant repairs and expertise.
The prestigious Theatre Surface Combatants Award for Excellence
has been presented three times to San Diego Ship Repair. San Diego Ship Repair has instituted a Process Improvement program and has
received hundreds of cost-saving ideas from employees. Additionally
a Lean/Six Sigma program has begun, which will further increase
quality and customer satisfaction.
